Stumbled upon this article when I read the STAR newspaper while I'm having my brunch just now, A new way of reading.
My sweetie knows how much I wanted it 2 years back when I began to beg my parents for one. My parents too know how much I wanted it and I did dreamt of owning one. Knowing that I could read endless list of novels on it at a cheaper price and without having to pester my dad to bring me to the bookstore is and was a definite attraction to me in owning a eBook. I was and still am an avid reader. However, back in my high school days, I read novels just like how a normal being drink water. In a week, I find myself pouring over three books or more and that includes the examination season cause usually during the examination season, I'll read more than usual(not the boring text books or revision books but novels).
My dad always have this issue of buying me novel after novels. Hence, he make it a rule, that I have to save up my weekly allowance if I ever want to buy myself a book. And unless its a special occasion(for instance, my birthday or if I do well in my exams) as a reward, he'll buy me novels within a budget of RM100 and usually I'll be able to buy myself 3 novels with that RM100 he gave me=)
So back to eBooks. For someone like me who craves for novels often will think the invention of the eBook is incredible.
I think its the coolest gadget invention so far(besides the ipod touch) and the invention of cell phone can't even beat that!
Nevertheless, owning a eBooks and a true copy of the original novel itself, its a whole different thing. There's this sentiment of owning a book which is irreplaceable. I like the feeling of stepping into the bookstores and also the genuine confusion I faced everytime when I couldn't decide which novels should I buy for myself. I also like the euphoria I usually felt within me whenever I purchase a novel when I am feeling downright depressed. Like any other shopaholics out there, instead of splurging my cash on endless clothes, accessories, shoes or whatever unnecessary to me, I splurge on books. And there's once back then, I used to splurge at least RM250 at onceon books. I remember having to save for a month just to spend them on the novels that I've been dreaming of owning them.
I absolutely love the feeling of arranging my novels on my shelve(I did snap photographs of the number of bookshelf I have in my room) and books are scattered in every corner in my room. I sleep with my books next to me, I havta bring a novel/a magazine with me whenever I am out and at times, I can't refrain myself from reading when I am dining on the table(yes, its rude but I can't help it at times, a habit I picked up from my cousin brother since I always see him reading when he's enjoying his meal when I was a kid). Each books that I've bought, did reminds me of the things that I've been through in my life. Hence by looking at it sitting on my shelve it does gave me the pang of nostalgia.
My mom knows that I wanted to turn the entertainment room in my home into a library one day and she likes the idea. I don't really like borrowing my books to others because at times they don't return them to me in a good shape and it really pisses me off whenever my friends return my books in such crappy state(some even don't return them to me cause they've lost them somewhere and lied about it) and till today I can still recall who borrowed which novel and return them to me in such a bad shape or not returning them to me(I remember the person's name along with the novel they've borrowed and not returning it back to me or returned it back to me in such a bad condition.)
You are not forgiven by the way so there's no use apologizing unless you buy me back those books. And I wouldn't wanna say fuck you cause why do I wanna fuck such useless souls? Bug off will be the right word=)
I am still considering of buying myself an eBook or asking my parents to give me one of those as a gift. But I've found something even better, an Ipod touch. But its so costly and knowing that my parents already bought me a car and sending me to somewhere as a gift to me from them, I think I'll havta push that idea of asking them for an ipod touch to a year later=/
eBook.
I wanted one so so much actually.

Mommy, daddy, can I have an Ipod touch for my 20th birthday or perhaps my 19th birthday(I know its impossible) but lets make a deal?
Note : Unlike some kids, who usually are allowed to ask their parents for something like a new cell phone, an ipod, or a new digital camera whenever they feel like it, I always havta make a deal with my parents before I request for anything like those gadgets.
My personal cell phone for instance, I got it when I was 17th as an encouragement gift from my parents to me to do well for my SPM examination, my digital camera was a gift from them to me since I got straight A's for my PMR examination, and for getting all the A's I needed for my SPM examination, they bought me a laptop=) As for the car that I'm about to get soon, its probably their gift to me for the effort I've put into my studies last year when I was doing my pre u.

Oh by the way, I always find it downright stupid whenever my friends told me their parents confiscate their novels from them just because they will be sitting for their exams and as a result these poor souls havta sneak in books to their rooms in order to satisfy their thirst of reading without their parents knowing it. Like cummon! How can a book harm your child!? Its not like they are reading porn when they are supposed to be studying! I still find such parents ridiculously stupid.
