Homecook food

After I've handed in my final report/assessment for this semester,
My friend and I decided to experiment in the kitchen..
And fill our stomach with homecooked food.

I've taken a liking to prepare meals for myself.
Cause the process and the outcomes are usually darn satisfying.

 Avocado prawn salad
Roast chicken + avocado prawn salad + sweet potato fries
Korean pancakes + leftover roast chicken

And we gave ramen a shot.
We made japanese roast pork (char siu)

Drooling yet?

Also make the broth from stratch.
Had to cook it overnight.
Tonkotsu ramen broth and ajitsuke tamago (marinated soft boiled egg)
Tedious process but the outcome is so good.

And now you can drool :P

I also tried making scones for the first time.
By the second time I attempted at baking scones,
I've figured how to control the thickness of it.
It was crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy in the inside

I've had this recipe in my mind for sometime now.
So I experimented it and it turns out good:)
I called it Breadcrumbs Aglio Olio

Back in Malaysia I can hardly get a chance to experiment in the kitchen.
My mom is always hovering over me criticizing every little things I do in the kitchen.
Yeah that's my mom for you.
Hence I came here with very limited cooking skills as I usually gave up trying to experiment in the kitchen back in Malaysia

I think I am getting better at it
My housemates and friends have always been my tester
Also I actually find cooking enjoyable. And baking.
Who would have thought?

Clinical placement begins next week!!! C:

I know I've been updating lesser since I've gotten here.
I'll try to be a bit more diligent with that.

Coffee Societe & BBQ Thai

After my last paper....
Jyun and I head over to Coffee Societe (Publika).
It was our first time there..
And I really like their coffee:)
The baristas were also very friendly.
Good atmosphere to hang out..
 Latte.
The right amount of bitterness..
I approve :)
 Mocha..
I had a sip from Jyun's cup but I think I still prefer the mocha from Artisan Roast
Yeap:)
He sure likes a good cup of joe :)

Then dinner at BBQ Thai- Thai Street Food at Old Klang Road.
A place recommended by William..
 The food there was delicious.
Well the few dishes that I had and I like..

It was a good place to go in a group of people..
Eating with a group of people opens your appetite,
And you could order all sorts of dishes.
Anyway William was the one who helped us to order the dishes below..
 Refreshing pandan drink..
A good drink to wash down your food..
We had alot of spicy food so this drink does help to keep us less warm..
 The squid dish..
Don't know the name, don't really like it but I don't really like squid anyway..
But the rest seemed to like it..
 Pandan boneless chicken.
Extra points for the boneless part..
Another extra points for the taste.
A must try dish.
 Mango salad.
It's too sour and it's alright (don't fancy it much)
A good appetizer though..
If you go in a group, try not too get too much of those..
Cause not everyone would find this to their liking..
 Green curry.
I drowned my rice with this.
The rice was so fragrant. I actually was really happy to have rice with the dishes.
(Although before this I really try to avoid rice as much as possible)
I like this :)
But I think the Thai Golden Village at Kepong serves better green curry..
 Grilled pork.
So soooo sooooooo good.
It's my favourite of all dishes.
Must try.
Tomyam..
Spicy and super sour.
I like :)
I think this is by far the best tom yam soup that I've ever tasted.
Although it's so spicy..
 Water chestnut dessert.
We attacked this once they served us.
I like this :) Especially the nangka and chesnut combination..
Mango sticky rice.
Finally got to try this!
Mango was sour though..
But I like the sticky rice..
 Let the feast begin!

 The couples..
Sunny and his boyfriend are the sweetest couple that I've ever came across.

Nestor and Sean (right) are the most adorable ones:)
 The ladies
 The bros reunite!
Sue Yen and William are like siblings from a different mother.
Both equally loud..
 Bromance #1
With Bradley around, there will be a good bromance session among the guys..
 Bromance #2
The caption of bromances.
Bradley and Chee Boon.
Without the other, the bromance process will not be complete.
Yes they are interdependent on each other to get the guys going ;)
 That's Jia Hui for you..
She always managed to find something fascinating about the littlest thing around her..
That's her playing with the airconditioned fan..
And Bradley joining in..

 The ECC power girls
 The ladies.
Do I need to say anything about him?
He has been my partner in crime since the day we met on the railings :)
First person I spoke to on my first day of class..

Yeap.
It has been a great journey with these bunch.

Austin Chase, Elcerdo & Fencing

One of the day during the break..
We went for our usual weekly doze of coffee,
We went to:
Austin Chase :)
My mocha, Jyun's latte

After postponing our dinner date for approximate one month,
We finally managed to find time to go to the place Jyun wanna take me to..

It's somewhere in Bukit Bintang..
And when I stepped into the place,
I noticed how romantic the setting is..
There are a few pubs/bars/restaurants outside this place..
And apparently this place is really famous for their pork meat :)

We are not the only ones of course,
He made the reservation for us at 6.30pm..
So the place isn't that busy yet :)

Around 7pm ish, the place started to be filled with people..
And they have this tradition whereby they slice the meat the plates just to show the customers that they are really confident about the crispiness of their pork meat,
After that, the plates will be thrown into a pail and smashes into pieces.
Well I didn't take any photographs of those since I was busy enjoying the scene..XD
Complimentary bread and tuna.
I am a sucker for those two combo :)
Hot tapas (can't remember the name of the dish).
It's potatoes with tomato sauce or something..
Always wondered what tapas is so we got that for our appetizer..
Taste like fries with tomato?
HAHA!
I like the combination too

Then comes to our main dish.
We had German Crispy Knuckle which is served with potato dumpling, Sauerkraut and Mustard & Beer Sauce, and Apple Mousse

It was so crispy and juicy.
Have not tried any crispier pork meat besides this.
And the combination of Sauerkraut and Mustard & Beer Sauce, and Apple Mousse with the meat,
Is absolutely delicious.
Not a big fan of pork,
I mean this sort of pork meat, unless they are processed into sausages/meatballs..
But this place changed my perception towards unprocessed pork meat..XD
 Apple Mousse..
Sourish and sweet,
I like it with the meat,
Gives me all kind of taste which blends well in my taste buds..XD
I tried the potato dumpling too,
It tasted rather meatish and salty too..
I only ate one since the pork knuckles are really filling :)
Owh did I mentioned that the service in that place is really good too?
Since most of the items in the menu are alien to us,
The people who served us took their time to explain to us what some of the things mean,
Besides making recommendation on what is famous in that place.

As for desserts,
We had Werner's special which contains fresh strawberries in mango sauce and chocolate mousse and wild raspberry sherbet.
The verdict?
The strawberries are rather sour,
But other than that the I like the raspberry sherbet very much,
It's a great dessert for something other than chocolate :)
Digestive drink,
Jyun didn't finish his cause he doesn't like the taste of it..
It's erm..sourish, bitter, and sweet?
God knows what are those but they gave us that as a complimentary drink after the whole thing..
It does help me with the digestion though after that huge meal.

Overall,
It's a very satisfying meal.
I'm glad that we are able to make time for it =D
Like the setting of the place,
Have to give Jyun the credit for taking me there and finding out about the place :)
The pork there is a must to try.
On our way to the restaurant,
We actually had a discussion about people who cannot eat pork meat due to religious reasons,
It's a pity really.
Cause it somehow limits their choice,
Same goes to people who doesn't eat or are not supposed to eat beef meat due to religious reasons..

And before the semester begins,
I went fencing with a few of my classmates :)

Pictures are from my classmates.
